Think they would be a bit loud for a set of headphones... interesting idea though! They are killer for pure custom work for front fill, center channel ect...

how would i power them?

i got 3.5" mounting locations on the dashboard, and my buddy has tweeter locations that are about 2.5" in the mirror spots on his tarus...

do you think its safe to go off the HU?

what about the third channel of the XOVER for the CDT 51-CV? the "imaging tweeter" or would that put out way too much high end\wattage?

Put them on an audio attenuator for they are only rated at 15W rms and 60max and tune them according. Cross them over at a max of 150hz -18k hz and I reccomend 200hz / 16K. Not sure how what the output for the imaging tweeter on the cdt crosses at.

These will need an enclosure to get any good response out of them in the lower range, albeit a tiny one. I would NOT just run them freeair in the dash.

Yes that is correct, I do reccomend a micro sealed enclosure which can be made super easy from fiberglass.
