Raised Emblems Under Vinyl

I see lots of people have raised emblems or logos underneath their upholstery.

A) What do I use to make this? Will just cardboard work?

B) When printing the design off of your computer, how do you relate pixels to actual size?

C) How do you glue it down to make sure that it goes down the sides of the logo (if that makes sense)

Thanks.

I've seen it done where the guy bought wooden letters from a craft shop and glued them to the surface. Then covered it with carpet, it came out pretty well. He put glue underneath and then pressed down on the letters with some sort of iron.

I never seen the foam done, maybe I'll try that sometime.

I use 1/4" or 1/2" MDF. Glue/nail gun to attach to the box. Use spray glue on the carpet and logo and let it tack for a minute or two, then use your fingers, dull putty knife, etc... to work it around the curves...

That's what I was considering doing, just because I have a 4'x4' sheet of 1/4" MDF and only need less than half of it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I may try the foam though... Might do a test, one of each //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah just use the foam if you want it to be plush. 1/4" MDF will do if your after that sorta thing. I was pretty bland in my first post I guess. A dull plastic tool works good to sink the letters or design.

Just sand the sharp edges of the MDF if you use it. It will stretch around it better.

Alright, thanks again guys.

As for my second question, how many pixels is equivalent to how many inches? Or in Photoshop, does the "inches" option actually make scale inches when printed?

Take this with a grain of salt, I've never personally worked with Vinyl, but I would think steaming it while your glueing and pressing around the raised part would help it to stretch and conform to the shape better /shrug
