ok so we all have the rainbow hookup here and i was dabbling with the idea of messing with them since i used a set of soundlines a few years back, but a buddy at work has a set of Alpine spx-f17t's which were the F1 status speakers before the Z1's and are pretty much just type-x prototypes. well, anyways the alpines are NIB and have never been tampered with for $450. who here has heard both and what input do you guys have at all?

BTW both sets are 3-ways, but the alpines have a 5.25" midrange instead of a 4" and has a huge and confusing xover network. i was alo looking at the ologyaudio xovers but have yet to get a reply from him.

Well you are comparing top of the line Alpine to lower line Rainbow. Without hearing them that would be a no brainer IMO. In terms of value, I think the Alpine wins...you get a better xover network and a larger mid. But does that work better in your install?? IME you can't go wrong with Rainbow products no matter where they are in the line up. Just my $.02.
