Rainbow Germanium's or CDT ES-620z for front stage?

i have had germs, iw asnt impressed at all... in fact i hated them and just really left a bitter taste in my mouth... Made me stop eating speakers....

I have a set of $100 CDT Comps in my silverado right now and i love them.... I have not heard the cdts your looking at but i know there low end lines are absolutely amazing... i would for sure give them a shot... specially if your looking for any sort of loudness cause if you want any decent volume then the germs are gonna dissapoint.

So boardroomjimmy, how did those CDT's sound?

I decided to go with the CDT mids up front with both the CDT AND rainbow germ tweeters (the second set will go behind the two front air vents) powered by the Zapco AG750.

Going to use the germ mids and a pair of infinity tweets fro the rear fill and pair that to the Sundown.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I can't wait to hear how this sounds. I should get my car back from my mechanic this week and the build begins //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

so your going to have 2 sets of tweeters up from?

so i guess your useing cdt or rainbow passive xover?

i think cdt has an imaging tweeter output on that xover?,, that will work fine for imaging.

you should focus on your front stage, before adding your rear fill.

The cdt's worked out perfect. I've got them running down to about 60hz and they're performing nicely. They fill in nicely between the alpine pro mids that are up front and my sub.(L7) The alpines make a lot of bottom end when allowed to go there, but would bottom out when pushed hard. So, I have them crossed over at about 85hz (amp setting) and are letting the cdt's pick up the rest. Since I've got the gains turned a little lower on the cdt's, it works perfect. The cdt's fill in with the sub, and the directional part of the mids are still coming from my front stage. I too am running 2 sets of tweets up front. The alpines are in the stock midrange mount in the door (see pic) and then I've got a pr of jl/vr's in the pods on top. The jl's are ran off of the pdx 150x2 running the cdt's, and set @ -2db on the passive x-over, so you mainly hear the alpine tweets. Overall the 2nd set of comps added a lot of volume to the system, and I still feel I've got good imaging up front. Now I'm rethinking my 10"L7......maybe a 12" alpine type x.

you have a lot going on with your front stage, glad you like it.

how high is your stage height?

does your music sound like it's in front of you or on your dash centered in front of you?

so your useing those cdt more of as midbass?

before you buy that alpine-x maybe should around a little!

I'm shure that some listeners would say the sound stage of my car is total crap. The mid bass is encompassing, not really focused in front or back. I can see where some would not like this effect. But, it hits hard and sounds tight. The j/l tweets sit @ the top of the door sill in the factory pods, and the alpines sit at about knee level aimed back at the drivers pos. There is not a focal point at the center of the windshield for the top end either. Instead it's between the tweets, about mid dash and across. Actually about what you would expect. The overall effect (focus) is foreward of the driver though, not to the rear. I'm 40 and have had plenty of systems in plenty of cars, this one is my favorite, and gets the loudest. The lexus is a nice quiet platform for the system. Maybe I'm getting deaf in my old age, but the alpines off of a JL 300/2 would not get loud enough for me. I know when speakers are at their limit, and the alpines were not gonna take any more than the 150 a side they were getting. Hence, another set of comps. I know plenty of you will disagree with this setup, but to my ears it works. I'll take into consideration your recommendations for the sub, thanks.
