Just trying to get some opinions between the two. I know they're both considered great brands, and unfortunately nobody near me carries them to listen to on a sound board.

I'm pretty set between the two, but just wondering what you guys think. Trying to keep it below $400, and looking for a set that's been elevated to "forum boner" status.

I've got a Cadence TXA6004 to power them (150 RMS x 4 at 4, 600 RMS x2 at 4 bridged). If bridged, obviously I'd be careful with the gains. They'll be going into the doors of an '04 Ram quad cab pickup with tweeters either in the A pillar or sail panel. The truck's got a decent amount of deadener in it, with 4 layers in the front doors, and a layer just about everywhere else, plus closed cell foam. Will be running them off an 880PRS. I'll probably start with them passive, and maybe go active depending on the results. I've got a pair of infinity perfect 10.1s in a ported box under the rear seats playing off about 650 RMS. Solid SQ sub imo, and not looking for an SPL setup.

Going for a warm sounding frontstage. From what I've read/heard, the HSK line has decent midbass, and a clear midrange, but the tweeters can be labeled on the brighter side. The Rainbows look intriguing, and I like the silk dome tweeter idea, but worried about midbass. I'll be coming from infinity kappa 6x9 coaxials, so just about anything will have better midbass. Trying to avoid sharp tweeters and hollow midbass.

I know these kind of questions get asked all the time, but I'll be buying sight unseen. What I'm really hoping for are the downsides of each. There's pages of how great each set sounds, but I find the best way to get an honest answer is to hear the complaints.

Thanks!

If nobody near you carries them as you stated then you'll have to get the Rainbows because dealers can't ship Hertz. Unless you can find a used pair.

For what you are looking for I would say the rainbows.

if you are in nrh, tx than there is a guy down here running the Hertz spaces and I think another still running the hsks or at least the mids.

I got rid of my rainbows but was very happy with them.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I'm going with the Rainbows. Apparently the NG Kicks haven't made it to the distributors yet, so I'm going to have to wait til May to get them in. Gets me kinda excited to know I'll be one of the first to have them in the US. I'd been leaning toward the Rainbows anyway, so we'll see. I spent the weekend looking for Hertz dealers in the area, and didn't have any luck. I didn't check with Mobile Sound. I might have to run by there once I get the Rainbows installed and see if I made the right decision. Thanks for the link!

Personally I wouldn't drop $400 on speakers I've never heard, or base my decision solely on what others think as only your ears can tell you how they sound. I'd make a better effort to demo the 2 sets you have in mind, so you don't end up with buyer's remorse.

Hertz more mid-bass by a long shot
Mind telling us how you can accurately compare the two sets when the Rainbows aren't even available yet? Oh, you should probably know that 6spdcoupe sells is a dealer for both and actually knows what he's talking about.

...unlike some:rolleyes:
