Hello I'm new here and thought this looks like a good place to ask a question that I have been asking a lot but have had no answers, so here it is.
I bought a second hand (because this unit is no longer available in the shops) Sony MDX-C800REC, because I wanted to record onto minidisc in the car from the radio.
The trouble is the MW and LW frequences work fine but FM - the one I listen to most does not. The symptoms are: I set the unit to search automaticaly or manualy for stations and it beeps as if to confirm that it has found and stored some. I press a preset number to listen to what has been stored only to find nothing there but a VERY faint noise of voices or music or whatever should be loud and clear. If I pull out the antena lead from the back of the unit it disapears as you might expect, but if I only half insert it I get a better but still bareley audiable sound of that station, if I push the plug fully home the sound gets worse and loses bass. I know the problem is not the antena as I have tried an aiwa unit on it and it works fine. I have also tried the Sony on a 'known to be good' antena in another car.
Does anyone have any ideas about what this could be, can it be fixed or had this problem themselves?
