Radio Antenna has bad reception after head unit install, Chevy Cavalie.

I have a chevy cavalier and after putting in a Kenwood ddx374bt the antenna reception ***** especially taking turns. I am almost sure cavaliers don't have amplified antennas and the problem goes away when I isolate the antenna cable from the rest of the wires. making me believe it is an interference issue. what would be the best course of action? to get heat shield material and wrap it maybe electrical tape?

it likely is frayed somewhere between the antenna plug that inserts into the radio and where the ariel is on the car. gonna be tough tracking it down. did you have the same issue with the radio that you replaced with this one?
