im planning on getting one but i don't know which one to get. i was looking at the Cobra XRS-9930 because of its low price and great reviews. what brand and model do you use and how do you like it? and anyone have experience with that cobra?

Bel Pro RX65.
Bought in new factory-direct with an extended warranty (which I've not had to use)

I like it just fine. It's saved me countless hundreds of dollars...
I've got an older Beltronics detector (960 or 980 I think). Great detector, I'm actually considering trading it in to upgrade to their new STI Driver model which has quite a bit more range.

Go to http://www.radartest.com/ for some decent info.

I've looked over the STi Driver model - looks bloody great but I can't see trading in a detector that I paid $300 for and is still under warranty coverage to only get $80 back on it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

on a really tight budget cant exceed 150 for a radar. the radars yall listed are on the expensive side =X
This is one area of purchasing that the old adage "You Get What You Pay For" holds incontrovertibly true //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

i've read that some of the cheaper radars are better than the more expensive ones. im gonna go do my research and see what comes up.

and that site charges you yo read the reviews...

No way is this true. I will put a bet on you that I know more about radar detectors then 98.9% of the people on this forum. Not to brag, but seriously. I've worked for the law enforcment. I've delt with many brands such as Stalker radars, lidar laser guns, and much more. Most police might not admit it, but as highway patrole, I've stopped a few people with radars that think their invincible, but I've seen a few people slamn on the breaks while I'm shooting a laser down the interstate before I could get it on them. It's tough for us to admit, but there are things out there that work against are technology and there always will. No matter what we create, opisite tecnology is created also. But when it comes to radar detectors you get what you pay for. I've tested with them all and done hundreds of hours of re-search on every brand of radar and most models. Cobras, I wouldnt trust it going 5mph under the speed limit. I actually threw one away other day. Beltronics make decent radar detectors against radars, don't have ultimate protection against lasers but they do work. Whistlers, you might as well have a coffe can in your window hoping it deflects the laser. Rocky Mountain=trash. Scramblers = no good. If your in the market for a radar, please do not buy something cheap. Your only to choices are Valentine 1 or Escort 8500 or sti. They all have their advantages. I've tested both lines, honestly on the highway I feel safer with my valentine 1.

Just a short story, keep in mind I'm a retired officer now driving a sports car. I do have temptations at time, but try and keep the road safe. But traveling from Houston to California, I was cruising along the highway at about 90 with my valentine. Keep in mind limits are 65 mph at night untill out of Texas. Laser goes off like crazy, I had just got nailed and knew I was in trouble. Look around, spot the officer as far as I could see on side of the road. Needless to say he was past the next exit that I took. Saved my but that night. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

if you cant afford an escort dont waste your money on any one...

why buy a crappy one then on top of that price have to pay for your tickets... just do it right the first time...

Passport X50

Passport X50 and the Bel Pro RX65 have the exact same internals //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif just in a different case.....

I got a V1 hardwired in my car. By far the best investment I've done that actually paid itself off by avoiding at least 5 tickets so far. If you speed a lot then I would highly recommend it.

Next I would say the passport escort, I had this one as well and its solid.

Once you get used the arrows feature for the V1, any other radar you use is just not as good. The arrows really help you know where about the cop is hiding or going the opposite direction on the freeway.

Like everything, you pay for what you get.

I'm not as concerned about where the cop is in relation to my car as I am knowing that he exists in the vicinity at all.

If I'm close enough to him that my detector can sense his radar gun then I'm close enough to slow down if I'm speeding.

In front, behind, beside, I don't care.

Test after test after test has shown that the only real advantage the Valentine has over the top dog Escorts/Bels is much higher X-band sensitivity and the addition of those threat direction arrows.

Well as the numbers of police departments using X-band guns, whether they be state, county/parish, or local cops is fewer and fewer by the day. It's outdated technology. So - being better at sniffing that out is of no real import to me.

After that? The arrows....

Well, I've already stated my opinion on those.

All in all?

There's no way in Hades the V1 is $100+ better than its closest competitors.

Your wrong there in relation to test. Test have shown allot more then this. The V1 is also allot more sensitive and picks out lasers quicker and more resposive in addition to x-band. They both have their advantages. I've had both in my car right beside each other. And honestly the v1 always picks up just a hair quicker, and has the arrow feature which I always like, but I noticed the x50 had less false alerts. But with the v1 it shows the direction, so if your passing a store and it points that direction you know the difference in a false alert and cop if your in town. Either way, I think we all agree that the escort and v1 are both the top of the line. And like you said, if your not going to purchase one of these 2, then dont waste your money.
