RAAMmat and ensolite???

I have been checking out sound deadening materials and I think I want to use RAAMmat, www.RAAMaudio.com but I have a question about the two materials Rick sells and I can't get a reply from him. My main goal is to reduce the amount of road noise inside the cab of my truck. Right now, I would like to start by applying sound deadening material to the firewall, floor and up behind the bench seat (truck). How do the two products work? Should I only be using the RAAMat BXT, or the ensolite, or both?

I guess what I'm asking is: What does the ensolite do, and is it worth it?

First, lets hit the basics. There are two basic types of sound deadening; Barrier loading and Mass loading. Barrier loading, as the name implies, is a material that creates a "barrier" for the sound and reflects or absorbs the soundwaves. Mass loading materials are applied to panels and add mass to those panels to reduce vibrations and resonances from those panels. Closed and open cell foam and egg-crate foam are examples of barrier loading deadeners. Mat deadeners like Raammat, Second Skin damplifier and damplifier pro, peel & seel, etc are all examples of mass loading materials.

Ensolite is a closed cell foam, which puts it in the "barrier loading" category. It's function in life is to reflect and absorb sound waves; which when applied to the floor and doors will help decrease road noise and such.

Is it worth it? That's up to you. How much $$ do you want to put towards deadening your vehicle? How important is decreasing road noise to you?

PS: I've used Raammat, and thus far it's my favorite deadener to use. Works excellently and at a hell of a price. Ensolite I haven't used yet....but am placing an order for 6-7 yards sometime this week.

you put the ensolite on over the top of the mat/liquid it basically absorbs and reflects what the mat/liquid wont get (well at least some more of it lol) they (raamat)are moving to a different building so be patient they are still around and i got me (lol) some new glue i wanna try out. you need to glue the ensolite down. i have a s 10 truck myself that im gonna put 4 yards in. i already have 1-2 layers of dynamat extreme on my floor 2 layers of dynamat in and around my box (back wall of cab, its a built to box) with 1 layer of mad mat. i put down a couple globs of cascade v block in the rear cab corners and i am getting a gallon of Edead v 3 to do the firewall/ plastic panels (still have some mad mat and dynamat extreme left for this too) then im putting the raamat ensolite on top to about the middle part of the bench (front to back) then im going to carpet the rest to cover up the deadner an make a trim panel for under the rear window. i still have like 8 sq feet of edead v1 4 cans of dynamat spray and some v block left. the metal parts of my doors are all done in 1 layer of dynamat extreme. i wont do anymore than that due to i dont have speakers in the door.

I kno this is a very old thread, but is Second Sking Overkill and ensolite the same stuff?

Well, it's "the same stuff" in a product category sense.....the are both closed cell foams. I doubt they are actually identical in construction and composition, however.
