"Great Stuff" as a sound deadner?

alrite, so i was told that if i couldnt afford dynamat, ect...that i should just fill my empty space, an dbare metal walls with expanding foam...has seemed to work very well so far...but im jsut wondering if anybody else has tried this...

btw...u wont c any of it...will all be covered up by fiberglass

I used a can of it in my trunk lid AND sound deadning and still get some rattling. No way could it kill your trunk lid alone...

doesn't it warp the outside door skin or trunk? Thats what I have heard so I have been to afraid to use the stuff.

if you are not careful... you can ruin your body panels.

but yes it does work.

Alot of guys fill their rocker panels with 2 part expanding foam to make the chassis more rigid.

I just loaded 5 cans into my 05 f150 today. I always fill void space behind the b-pillars

ya, all im doing is filling space...and trying to reduce vibrations...i shouldnt have said "sound deadening"...more like "Rattle Control"

I had two big voids going acrossed my back wall... should help the flexing out a tad......dunn what ther hell to do about the roof flex (no b-pillar)

Does this stuff actually "deaden"sound anything like matte products? I put a whole bunch of the shit around my trunk seal to stop the rattle. It helped some. It's pretty cheap too. Why not just run beads of this stuff back and forth under your door panel? Just dont get it on your skin or clothes...from personal experience...it wont come off!

but wouldn't using expanding foam in frame rails and other places alter the safety/design of the crush zones, etc in case of an accident or something?

maybe not, but it's just kind of a concern of mine. safety>everything else.

it's like when ppl customize cars, sometimes they cut out panels, and replace them or cut them down, altering the dynamics of that part changing the design of it.

I've used it on my trunk lid, cured all rattle issues on the lid itself.

Used it in an astro van, between the rear walls. Helped rattles 100%
