"Dummy" Voice Coil

I have a question which may or may not be a valid concept. Could I use say an old set of small 4 ohm speakers (could even be blown) as a “dummy” voice coil in my sub wiring configuration or does it have to be the same exact voice coils to lower or raise the impedence level. I would like to run a set of dual 2 ohm subs (which of course will yield a 2 ohm mono load) but I would like for my amp to see them as a 4 ohm load due to wattage reasons. I don’t want to overpower the subs. It may sound stupid but I can’t recall reading about this concept anywhere. Could be useful if it could and would work.

Thanks for any and all opinions.

give it a 2 ohm load. turn the gains down. build the right box. just dont turn the volume pas the setting you make for your gains.

if you use some random (blown?) speaker, it will recieve the same wattage, and it might melt the VC to a blob and break somthing.

i would highy not recommend it.

what speakers. what amp. what headunit. maybe we can help.

so basically you would be putting a 2 ohm resistor in series w/ your subs? Might work, but buying compatible equipment never hurts

And to answer your question, 2 ohms in series w/ 2 ohms give 4 ohms, reguardless of types of VCs etc. you could have 5 10ohm coils in paralell w/ a 2 ohm coil in series and the final load would be 4 ohms, for example.

I was just using 2 4ohm coils as an example.

HU is a DEX-P1R

Amp will be a Viper 2500.1

Subs are 2-15" Soundsplinter RL-p's (TC 9's)

Equipment is compatible.

Just thought that I would run them with 1500 watts for a while and see how they do before I give them 2500 watts.

Thanks for the reply's though
