"Bass Boost" is this what i think it is?

Hey guys, just installed my system today. I have a pioneer premier p690ub and am wondering about the setting for "bass" I know as i turn it up obviously the bass on the mids-highs go up but my subs also respond to the "bass" increase. I am wondering will this hurt my brand new sub setup? And is this "bass boost"? I know the last thing i want to do is hurt my new subs, i mean i did save up for two dang months for 'em! Also what is a good volume to break in my new setup? The pioneer i think goes up to 50 or 40 and right now i run the HU at 25 volume. Is this ok?

Thanks

Mike

Most everyone who's serious about sound quality leaves the bass boost either completely off, or on the lower end of the boost setting.

Unless you set your gains properly (with a DMM, search...) with bass boost on it can clip your amp and damage the sub.

Ok that is what i thought. I took my setup to my local audio shop, my buddy owns the shop so he did it for free obviously, but he tuned my amp and HU properly and it sounds crystal clear no clipping or anything and hits very hard. Thanks for the help. But as for breaking the subs in, what volume should i use for now?

It is amazing how good a system can sound when properly tweeked. I know I am a sq guy, who doesn't need to rattle the neighborhood. As far as your bass boost, the above post is correct. Leave it off or have it a very low level. I have mine on at just a tad over the minimum. Bass boost can be a time bomb for your sub stage, IF not used properly.

I wouldn't worry about breaking in your sub. Just listen to it at normal volume levels. It will break itself in over time with regular use. You may or may not notice a sonic change.

Ok thanks guys. Yeah i found that at around 30 of 50 volume is a comfortable level to listen to my subs. And WOW the type r's hit hard and clean! I love 'em. But i defiantly think i am going to look into a front stage equipment. defiantly comps but i think i'll go with type r's since alpine makes some decent subs.
