How do you know what hz to tune your subs?i am building a slot ported enclosure for 2 12's and i'm looking more toward spl than sound quality.5 cu.ft total and 1400watts(rms) in a 99' 2-dr cavalier. Please help!!!! I want to build this right the first time.thanks all

wait you tune the box, not the subs. but yea as stated tune 35-45hz area

no,that's 5 cu.ft total.sorry about the typo.also what's the difference between 35,36 and 37 Hz?sound wise what will give me more spl?

i know it is speaker dependant as well, but what tuning (approx) would give a linear response (obviously not perfect) next box i build i might go for a ported but try to achieve the response of a sealed.

i listen to alot of rap too.do you get more bass with 40 hz?or could you get more by lowering or going higher.this is my first box with a slot port and i want it to perform at it's peak.

Ive realized that for rap sealed works a lot better for me. But thats just me. Most mainstream hip hop will sound good ported like Lil Jon, Ying Yang Twins, etc. But I like my subs to handle everything well not just certain music.

I would stay above 30 hz but below 40 hz. Really up to u.

well with 40 hz u wont be able to play anything under 35hz or ur subs will blow. So u gotta cut those frequencies out with a SSF. Im pretty sure it will be louder as in DBs but probably not as much low end as lets say a tuning of 30hz. Ive never tuned that high but I would assume it would be somewhat peaky but I dont know through experience.

My box is tuned to 48hz... I can send a 20hz tone to them with give or take 200 watts or so... havn't had them blow yet.

Although I wish I had made it lower, the 48hz tuning really isnt bad... but it does lack low end, which I would rather have than pure SPL, especially for rock.
