Quick wiring question...

I had my D9 wired (its a dual 4 ohm) by the guys at the shop but they didn't wire it to the amp. I wired it to the amp myself. I know the - is supposed to be wired together to go into the - spot on the amp and likewise with the +.....

What will the sub sound like if the sub is wired right but one set of +/- go to the + on the amp and the other set goes to the - b/c i think i mightve done that... let me know!

If you have the voice coils wired out of phase you most likely will get very little output. If you have two sets or wires coming out of the box you can use a 9volt battery to test polaity. connect the positive and negative on the battery to what you believe to be the positive and negative wires going into the box. If the sub moves out it is correct. If it moves in your wires are reversed. Do this on each set of wires going in to the box. If you only have one set of wires going into the box I would pull the sub and check all connections.

Actually, if it is a single sub, it wont matter //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And before you argue, think about this..

The coils are copper wires wrapped around a former. To them, current is current regardless of what they are labled.

you do realize we are talking about a dual voice coil sub right? If one coil is in phase and the other is out of phase they will be trying to move the sub in opposite directions.

Well, I was talking about after the coils had already been wired in series or parallel. I can see where our confusion was coming from //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

lol, That would make a difference in perspective. The poster didn't seem to sure about the install. Thats why I tried to tell him how to check everything out.

but to take the sub out of the box is a HUGE pain..... is there anyway to tell?
r u serious?? its not that hard to turn a screwdriver. 8 screws whooop de dooo. I'd do it just for peace of mind knowing that its wired correctly.

It is a big deal when it is in a custom fiberglass box and THEN has 3 mdf rings glued together that are screwed into the box WITH THE SUB!!! So it is HUGE pain .

To everyone else, thanks... I got it wired correctly
