Hey guys so this is kind of a newb question but i figured it wouldnt hurt to ask. I see people talking about subs getting "Clean power". What do you guys mean when you say "your subs should be fine as long as its getting clean power". How do you know if your amp is giving clean power? Does it mean that you have the correct gauge wire, ur alternator can handle it, ect.? Like if you were running 8 guage wire on a setup that required 4 gauge are you not running clean power? Thanks guys sorry if this is a dumb question.

long story short, clean power = nonclipped signal. If youre clipping the signal youre essentially greatly overpowering the subs and causing them to overheat and eventually blow. Most good subs will take more than rated power as long as it is not clipped power stemming from voltage drops, incorrect gain settings, etc

This and to clarify, having proper wiring/voltage is just a portion of said clean power. Another part of that is certain brands of amplifiers are known to be 'dirty' amps meaning they will put out RMS, but not have a great damping factor, or really be in great control of the sub. A little bit of searching around specs on amps and looking through people's experiences on here will give you the few brands to stay away from. Otherwise, it's having a proper electrical system, and setting gains and boosts properly.

just to touch on the bold part. you dont have to overpower a sub to clip the signal. clipping doesnt equal overpowering. you could clip your amp from gain to high, bass boost, poor electrical. i know you mentioned that in the 2nd part, but just wanted to say clipping isnt overpowering your woofer.

great info thanks guys.. so im goin with a rockford T600-2 amp. I have never heard anything bad about rockford amps, what do u guys think? Im going to be running two DVC 12" 4ohm subs (300 watt RMS) off the amp.

dont get the t6002 then unless you plan to bridge, and run a 4 ohm load........then it should be fine.

used this amp on a customers 12w7, he was really skeptical until he heard it, and that was a 3 ohm load. at 4 ohm the sound quality and control should be outrageous. you can also get the same power for cheaper, but from personal experience it doesn't get much better amp wise.

and i think that the actual power at 4 ohms bridged was just over 900, really underrated.

thats my exact plan actually, bridged to a 4 ohm load.. My subs are only 300RMS- 900PEAK.. and your saying that the T600 will put out 900 watts at a 40hm load? Ive heard that amp is underrated but 300 watts under? thats insane. you think my lil subs can handle that amp? lol
