ok this is a quick question, my freind told me that if you have a dvc 4 ohm sub, you can run it at a 4 ohm load if you only hook it up to one of the voice coils? is this true?

No, never power only 1 coil on a DVC sub.

You can wire it to either 2 or 8 ohms.
