Quick question!

thats measured at 14.4 volts

THUNDER1501D

• RMS Power measured at 12.5 Volts DC:

500 Watts x 1 into a 4 Ohm load with less than 2% Thd+N

1000 Watts x 1 into a 2 Ohm load with less than 2% Thd+N

• Dynamic Power measured at 14.4 Volts DC:

750 Watts x 1 into a 4 Ohm load

1500 Watts x 1 into a 2 Ohm load

• Signal to Noise Ratio: ≥100dB A-Weighted

• Damping Factor: >100

• Frequency Response: 20Hz-200Hz ± 3dB

• Maximum Input: 8Vrms

• Thunder EQ: Variable Bass Boost (0-18dB) centered at 40Hz

• Crossover: Variable 40Hz to 200Hz, 24dB/Octave Low Pass

• Dimensions: 17.8" x 9.75" x 2.1" (45.3cm x 24.8cm x 5.3cm)
And thats about what your car will supplly it

I see your point, but I wouldn't define RMS and Dynamic power like that.

RMS It is the continuous (long term) sine wave power that can be dissipated by the voice coil/magnet assembly without failure.

Dynamic watts is the amount of wattage that can be used for very short-term peaks in music. It cannot be used on a continuous basis. On a typical loudspeaker playing at medium loudness with an 88db sensitivity, if you were sitting about 10 feet away from the speakers an had an SPL Meter you might see a reading of anywhere from 80-85 db's. For loud you might get from 90-95 or so db's. Let's say while listening there is a sudden burst in sound (like in the 1812 Overture) that causes the speaker to pull enough wattage to momentarily play a 105-110 db sound. This would be the dynamic sound difference.

Obviously, the amp will draw more volts to accomplish a dynamic high, which will come from the alternator in a car, but this happens with home audio too.

Every movie and all music have a dynamic range, which will not be continuous. That's why I prefer RMS...it's a better measurement. And yes, any amp with 500w RMS is a good amp with clean/powerful sound.

Yeah...probably worded that wrong. Was talking about speakers when it should have been amps. RMS applies to both though. RMS of amps refers to the root mean square of an AC wave that an amp can output. RMS of speakers refers to the root mean square of an AC wave that a speaker can handle.

As for the alt thing...I'll take your word for it b/c I know nothing about them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I just assumed that the amp would draw more voltage from the battery to achieve dynamic peaks. Didn't think an amp could produce more wattage with less voltage (The old saying: Cant get something from nothing). Always thought the headlight dimming was a result of the amp drawing more voltage for dynamic peaks and other car electrical stuff is suffering b/c the battery and/or alternator can't keep up.

Why don't we all just enroll in some EE courses at your nearest university and then we can all come to an agreement.

Give me two years and I will be ownin yalls ***** in info ANYDAY :p

I have no doubt that it will be heard. You don't want to attract too much attention though...ie. thief!
there is alot of that nowadays, is there any way to reduce the outside bass, and keep it in the car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif ?

Maybe Dynamat or some other sound dampening material. Also improves sound quality. Also, don't be silly - Driving around with the system pumped to the point of insanity, windows down, and purposely trying to attract attention and look cool. Gives the car audio industry a bad name and you don't look cool. Especially when you exit the mall and discover your dash ripped apart!

I'm paranoid about theft, so I don't try to attract attention, I have a Viper security system, and I don't put my equipment stickers on the car window to advertise what I have.

I may be raining on your parade, but why have a loud system if you are never gonna turn it up loud. I understand what you are saying about people who do it just to try to look cool, but, I do it because thats the way I like it, and also I do it responsibly...

Don't get me wrong...I like to turn mine up too, but not to an insane level. I've seen cars drive by with so much bass that they set off car alarms along the street. Obviously indicates a lot of power, but is basically noise pollution and disturbing the peace. And if I were looking to steal a system, I would follow the guy to plan my theft! You said the key word there: responsible. That's all you need to due.
