Quick Question, Need Help!

New guy here, with a quick question. I just bought this MTX Magnum 1000watt Bass package, 500rms watts, 2ohm, 2 12" subs. But, the amp only puts out 400rms watts (sounds a lot quieter). So, I was looking at the Crunch P1500 amp, because I am cheap and read that Crunch is a pretty decent brand. My problem is that at 2ohm, the amp puts out 750rms watts, which is more than rated for the subs. Can I just turn the amp settings down so I don't blow the speakers, or should I look into the Crunch PZi1000watt amp? Thanks guys!

Edit: Also, going from that much difference of watts, will it make a lot of difference to be worth it? Thanks again!

Actually, the Crunch P1500.1 WILL NOT give you 750 watts RMS @ 2 ohms because it is a 1500 watt MAX amp! You may, and I reluctantly say MAY get 500 watts RMS @ 2 ohms and if you can tell the difference between 400 watts RMS and 500 watts RMS, you have ears of gold!

I'm going to say the biggest difference made would be to get a whole new setup.

Well, to tell you here - you'll probably see a difference with a custom built box. As in, not a pre-fabricated one, but one you build yourself, for the subwoofer's specifications.

And the difference between 400 and 500 watts RMS is minute with all other things remaining constant - don't bother.

But see, it only says it is 400rms, and I highly doubt it really is because nothing rattles in the car, you don't shake in your seat or anything and the subs are mounted RIGHT behind the front seats facing them.

Edit: This is in a Mustang, by the way.

Well, changes are it won't do full rated power, but chances are in addition that it won't make a large difference. However, it might make some of one. Depending on how overrated the MTX amp is.

Also - does the box vibrate quite a bit? Could be it's losing much of the vibrations, and you're not feeling them.

Also, 500 watt subs aren't going to shake down the whole car with MTX subs and a prefabbed box. Don't expect that much.

Check the install, and check your amp settings.

What head unit are you running? If you are running the factory head unit, did you use a line output converter? I watched a so call "professional" wire up the line output converter out of phase and actually try to pass the install off as "OK".

Well I mean, pennies don't even shake in the copholder or anything like that? I don't know what it takes, as I am new to all the sound system deal. But, do you think it is worth spending the $130 to go from a '400rms' amp to a '750rms' watt amp? Thanks for all the help guys!

I am using the factory Mach 460 headunit, and spliced into the rear speaker wires with a line out converter. Everything is wired up fine also, I believe.

Check gunz4me's post.

And, the crunch will NOT do 750 RMS. It's rated for 500, and will probably do a bit under that.

Well do you have any suggestions other than buying a whole new setup to make it bump more? Also, if it helps, I have a 4 gauge wiring kit.

New box for start, would be my recommendation.

What are the specs for everything?

As in, subwoofer model and box type - ported/sealed, and the size of the box.

Well, I put the settings on the amp as recommended on this paper that it came with. I have the gain half way up, the bass half way up, the LFP all the way down to like 5ghz I beleive? Also, I have the HPF on halfway, but the little switch that you can slide from LPF-FULL-HPF, I have it on LPF. And lastly, on the line out converter I have, the gain and the output are halfway up. Thanks!

Edit: Another thing that has my concern is that it is terrible at hitting the lows. The high bass notes shake everything way more than the low notes. I was reading maybe it could be the box doing that, or just the amp settings? Also, I am leaning towards a ported box, as I hear it can be a very big difference. All I listen to is rap really, so I am not worried about quality, just how hard it hits.
