Quick question about two Orion HPD2s in a sealed box

So I'm helping my friend put two 10" Orion HP subs in his mustang.

They will be in a sealed box but I have a question as this is my first box build/installation.

I think the recommended size for a single sub is .55 cu ft.

So can I build a box that is just 1.1 cu ft?

like so:

or would it be better to separate them within the box like so:
