Quick question about setting gain

Everywhere I look it says to use a 50hz 0db tone to set your gains. Why a 50hz tone? Why not 40 or 30? Won't the voltage rise when you're amp sees lower frequencies? So if I set an amp with a 50hz tone, and the play a 30hz tone on it, couldn't it clip it?

I thought it was a 60 hz test tone, because that's what they rate the RMS of your subs at, 60 hz.

if you don't have a true rms meter then 50/60 hz is the logical choice since that is where they are calibrated... otherwise I'd use the lowest freq. you intend on reproducing...

Eventually you'll be able to use your ears and common sense to set the gains.
