Quick Question about fuses

I have 2 amps running in my setup, a profile that is powering a set of cdt hd62 components i think its doing 200x2 rms (However much it really is i dunno) and im running a idq10 sub off a small kar200 amp thats doing about 200w Rms if im correct.

Question is that when this guy installed it he put a 30 amp fuse that is under the hood from the battery. Well, I'm guessing it blew, cuz the rears running from my HU work, but the two amps dont work now.

How big of a fuse should I be needing for this setup really? And he didn't use a fuse holder either, but is a holder really necessary if you use electrical tape and stuff?

Thanks.

EDIT: My mistake, he used a 30 amp maxi fuse.

For 2 200RMS subs, about a 40a fuse is good. 30a may be a little too much, but it should suffice. You can look at the fuse, if it blew, it should be pretty obvious. Unless its a bolt down, in which case its a bit harder to tell.

Fuse holders arent neccesarily required, but... you need one. Electrical tape only goes so far against vibrations and such. Your best bet by FAR is simply to get a fuse holder. They run about 25$ and will save you tons of headaches.

how many times do i have to say this!!!! THE FUSE RATING IS BASED ON THE WIRE. Use the maximum allowable size fuse for your wire size and length.. they have charts go look it up. **** fuk.

So your saying to use a 200A fuse on a 100RMS sub, just because it fits a certain gauge wire?

My best guess says they just crimped or something the end of the wire, and electrical taped it to the fuse... which is bad.

yeah, i usually dont fuse my subs, its usually my amp. and yeah everyone knows its bad.

lol wow I'm kinda pissed now that he did this job so crappy. Just to make sure I'm not confused, here's what it looks like. I'm at school now so my car is at home, and I cant take pics of it, but here's an explanation.

There's a 4 gauge wire coming from the battery terminal. I'd say it's about 1 and a half feet long. It's pretty much dangling in the engine bay, but not touching any parts or anything its in an open area. Then, under the electrical tape at the other end of the wire, I see the back of the fuse, which says 30a. It looks like it would be the back of one of these.

That's all there is. =/
