Quick noobie question to settle dispute.

In a car with two batteries...One up front and one in the trunk with an amp that uses 4 20A fuses (80A)...Do you need a fuse (80A) between battery and the amp itself or between batteries only?

i would put one between the rear battery and the amp, an another fuse close to the main battery under the hood that is feeding power to the rear batt ...

need??? you don't need any fuses between any products. it's really just a matter of preference and if you want to perserve your products if something happens.

Fuses should be after first batt and before second batt. as close as possibly or within 12-18 inches. Fuse before the second battery should ideally placed to prevent a fire... so in the trunk, but not in a place thatll easily catch aflame(Just incase)

This is if your safe... if you dont give a shit about ruining gearor possibly torching yourself alive.... you dont need fuses.

A fuse won't hurt you...but remember murphy's law. If something bad can happen...it WILL.

Placing the fuse after your battery to your amp does no more to protect your amp than the fuses on the amp itself. It's to protect the wire running to the amp in case it shorts.

Yes, its not to protect your amp its to protect the wire.

Fuse both ends of the positive run between the batteries.

Fuse the run to the amp if you want to be extra safe..it's not really required.

If you did not fuse the power wire, and got into a collision which severed the wire, and it grounded to chassis heres what would happen.

The battery would short to ground discharging all of it's power into the chassis, the place it shorted to will get GLOWING HOT, and the battery will start to expand and explode......

I guess if your a pyromaniac don't fuse the power wire, and go get tboned....LOL.
