Will it damage the woofer, dual 4Ohms coil, if only one side of the coil is wired to the amp?

The used speaker I bought, already in a box which I figured was wired correctly, was only wired on one side of the coil coming from the box. I bought some monster wire to increase efficiency from speaker to amp and surprise!!! The speaker wasn't wired in series or parallel.........................

Anyway I wired it correctly according to my amps needs and granted my car shook more as if there was more sound pressure but the sound quality nose dived... Before I could get out of the car and hear the bass for a long way away but after the rewiring I could get out and walk 50 or 60 paces and hear almost nothing but I could see my car vibrating... I know for certain the speaker is wired correctly. I even tried switching from 2Ohms at the amp to 8Ohms and it only got quieter. Cause of the increase of Ohms i know but I am thinking...

HEY maybe I have stumbled upon a really useful method of increasing SQ when needed and then when I want SPL I just rewire... I dunno though.

Anyone have an explanation or maybe run into this yourself?

BTW speaker is a dbdrive Plat 12" 750worms.

wiring one coil is foolhardy

ive never heard of it "increasing sq" lol... ive mainly heard of people blowing gear....

keep it wired the way it is..... why does it matter how much you hear outside?.. its all about inside...

Maybe you notice a difference because of the added bass drowning out your mids/highs?

you might mistake that for loss of sq... or maybe added rattles.

Keep it the right way.
