I've got a stock headunit from a 1997 Acura TL. It fits into my car like it was made for it. I still have it because I want something that looks stock and doesn't stand out. (I'm the anti-ricer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif)

I don't want to buy an expensive headunit and go through the wiring and crap, and I want to find a way to get around it. I want something that'll make my sub sound like it has a $200 HU on it, but I want to keep the unit I have now if that's at all possible.

Basically, what I've heard from my friends is that I'll have an extremely noticeable difference in SPL and SQ if I upgrade my headunit. They've said that I'll get that big bass that could be heard for a long ways away. (I actually just want to have the capability to have that bass, I'm not one to ride around town and blare my system and show off) I want to know if I can add in some sort of device (such as an EQ) that will give me some of the benefits that a new HU would add. If there is any way to accomplish what I want to accomplish tell me now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks

Does the stock h/u have preamp outs? How is the signal getting to your amp? You could get a line amp, I got an earthquake eq that was designed to be an add on to stock h/u. If you want to try it out, give me your address and i send it to you. I'm not using it anyway.

i'm using a high input signal right now, no rca preouts on my HU

it works fine, i'm still wondering if i can use something to optimize the signal going into the amp... the way i figured it, i could hook the eq up just like i have my amp hooked up now, and then i can run rca's from the eq to the amp. but i'm not gonna do it if it wont help, can someone please just answer me, a simple yes or no lol, cmon

no, it won't. at least, not to the extent that you want it to. anything you do to the signal coming from your HU won't be as good as a quality-minded aftermarket HU. you're still going to have to wire up the EQ, so just install a new HU and be done with it.

aight that's all i was lookin for.. took a few days to get it outta somebody.

i can get a pioneer headunit for $50 from one of my friends so i might just save up a while and do that. i hate that i have to lose my stock look.. just seems to ricery to have flashy lights and do-dads inside of the car.. but i guess it'll really be worth it cause i've ran rca lines from my friends expensive HU to my amp/sub and i've heard how much cleaner the sound on the sub is.
