i have an older RF amp hooked up to my 2 12 type r's. the guy i bought them off of told me that the amp was 1200 watts. i have absolutely no idea about the amp. its like solid cast iron. its pretty old. but it gets kinda hot. the bass, treb, and mid on my HU are all turned up to +3. i usually listen to it on volume of 36 of 62. so my question is that it gets hot but not really hot. u can still touch it. so should i be worried about it getting hot or is it just the way its supposed to be?

Thanks Matt

X2 with the above post. This is a well documented (hrmmm issue is not the word). Just part of how the amp is. Keep it vented (ie don't put it under a seat). and you should have no problem. Should go into protection mode if it gets too hot.

Make sure you have the gains and everything set correctly as well.

X3. It is a class a/b design making it less efficient than todays class d subwoofer amps. The heat is generates is the reason for the heavy duty heatsink. As far as the power output what model is it?

i had a RF 500.2 on three old school 12" kicker solo barics the S12Ds and the amp got a little hot to the touch but never over heated i think its just how these amps are it never got to hot as i keeped it vented with my back seat taken out so you should be alright with it mine never went into protect mode

i really dont know anything about it i havent looked to close. my buddy has my truck right now so i cant look at it. its vented. its on the side of my box. the gain and everything else is set properly. im just making sure nothing is wrong with it. when i get a chance hoepfully tonight or tomorrow i will get pics of the amp and post it up.

and it hasnt gone into protect mode. i had it going for about an hour straight one day and it was hot but i could touch it for about 5 seconds and it was still running fine with no problems. so i dont think it will go into protect mode anytime soon.

yea thats the same way mine was but it was still fine after a couple hours of straight play so im sure u will be alright with it every amp is ment to get a little hot even my homies JL 1000/1 gets hot to the touch but it never gets any hotter

alright thanks for the help guys. also if anyone is interested in this amp let me know. im looking for more power. maybe 1500 or 2000 watts at 2 ohms.
