question regarding a 12" sub at 500w rms

Hello, I currently have a kenwood kfc-xw1202dvc that is a dual two ohm sub running at 4 ohms in series on a Eclipse XA1200. (At 4 ohms the amp puts out 350w rms and at 2ohms it puts out 500w rms and 600w max.) I have the sub in a 2.1cu^3 box that I made with 3/4 mdf and has a flared 3" port that I tuned to 30hz. I like the deep sounds that I get from the sub/box combination but it only gets loud when the volume is at half on the head unit and it gets pretty loud at 3/4 volume. Should I put some more wood in there to make the box a little smaller to get more spl? (I know I would have to adjust the port as well, which might be a pain in the a$$ //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif) Basically speaking, I would like more output throughout the volume range of my head unit. Would it be worth it to buy a well made sub that is in a dual four ohm configuration so I can run it in parallel at 2 ohms? How much louder can I expect it to be? I am running 4ga wire from the battery to a distribution block and then one side goes to the sub amp and the other goes to a Memphis amp that powers my component speakers for the front doors. I would like to buy the sub from a company like ascendant audio, sun down audio, fi, etc instead of alpine, mtx, kicker, etc. I was thinking that the Ascendant Audio Arsenal 12" subwoofer would be a good choice since they have it in a dual 4 ohm configuration and it requires 500w rms. Or what about a sundown audio SA Series 12? However, it runs at 600w rms, so I would be under powering it, but it should still be safe to run at 500w rms right?

Here is a picture of the sub amp, in this pic its not fully wired up yet...

Thanks for your time and have a great day,

Matt

It shouldnt get louder by taking away box vloume. That is probly the recomended volume for your sub? Your best option is to get a better amp. make sure it can do 600 @ 4ohms. 1 ohm stable would be nice too.

Yes, that is the recommended volume for the sub but it's on the larger side. So do you think it wouldn't be worth it if I used the same amp and got a new sub that I could run at 500w?
