question on porting mids

y they stealin my bucket?
wanting more mids outta my SLC 265s. the mids are in small kickpods (probably .3-.4 cu ft each). since its probably too late to make them AP, i was thinking porting them to gain more extension on them.

whats a good number to tune them to that i wouldnt loose much midrange, while gaining more mid bass? i was thinking around 70-80 hz via a .75 pipe and however long it would be to tune it appropriately

thanks for the info,

kevin

couple of pics, ill give the polyfill a try, but there might not even be enough room for a port..

I'm confused, the term midbass is a bit misused on this forum, lol. Anyway, are you trying to get them to play lower or to actually have more midbass? AP enclosure wouldn't be that difficult, certainly easier than porting them. If your not scared to cut into your car vent them into your door or the floor panel.

well they got some punch to them, but lack any desirable extension. i dont think id ever cut into my car for this though. Theoretically, if i were to make an AP enclosure,

#1, i would have to build new pods right?

#2, what are the advantages of AP over ported and sealed?

#3, where is the AP membrane usually located, into the air, or against the rug/kick panels?

#4, how big of a membrane would be effective for a 6.5" woofer?

sorry for all the questions, kinda new to mid enclosures and thanks to those who have helped so far

Do you want Midbass as in 100hz~400hz, Or Sub bass.

You said 70hz~80hz. If so then get a 8" or 10" Sub and tune it to 70~80.

Bass is not directional So you can put it any where.

this link should answer all those questions and a few more to boot:http://www.elitecaraudio.com/article.php?sid=18&mode=&order=&thold=&pagenum=2&totalcutoff=3086

bass isn't directional... (so much anyways), but the crap that it shakes/rattles is... unless you have a perfectly deadened space etc., it is very hard to hide the location of your subs.

I greatly prefer gettting the 60-100 hz range into the front of the vehicle whenever possible for this reason

just my opinion

true, but not all components will play 60hz with authority without disorting. I'd take tonality over a bit of bass in the back. Oh well, I've got 8's for midbasses anyway.

Just port them to outside and turn them into IB, it is the easiest and will produce good results. You would have more midbass output ported, but good luck getting them to work with kickpods that are that small, uneven sized, hard to measure, hard to port.
