question on algebra 2 test today

It seems like a pretty simple problem, but me, other class mates, and my dad and sister couldnt figure it out for sure.

" It takes person A 8 hours to paint a room, it takes her helper 12 hours to paint the same room. If they work together how long will it take them together to paint this same room?"

well it would be more than 4 hours because person A would take 4 hours to do half and he is quicker than the other person

4 hours and 40 minutes.

Best i can figure...if the first person did the whole room in 8, they would do half in 4. The other person did the whole room in 12, so half is 6. The first person would finish their half before the other person. They could do 2/3 more than the other person(4/6=2/3), and would therefore end up painting more than half of the room. My guess is 4 hours and 40 minutes.

person 2 paints 50% slower than person one. so it would take 6 hours. i think lol

Or her helper is a male and they "get it on" Then maybe a bit longer that 12 hours.

haha no shortage or paint or anything. I do not know the answer yet. we just took this test today and everyone i asked didnt know. i can most likely tell you guys tomarrow.

How did you guys get 5 hours? I guessed and went with 10 but now that i think about it it should be less than 10hours.
