Question on a Hifonics amp

$5 more u can get the aspm-1500 just as good quality as the hifi and leaves u alot of room for future upgrades
Just concerned about that much power on my electrical. I am already getting slight dimming on my old Sony Xplod with only like 350w RMS even with the Big 3 done. Not sure if the ASPM-1500 would be good for my electrical.

It's not bad at the two ohms you'll be running it at. My bro hasn't even done the big three and he only gets very slight dimming. BTW, he runs that amp to two cheap Kenwood svc 4ohm subs, and it sounded much louder than I thought it would, lol...

My subs are 8ohm a piece so it would only run 4ohm on the amp

It only makes 500 at 4 ohms, which is close enough. And you'll be set for future sub upgrades. You won't have ANY electrical issues running that apsm1500 at 4 ohms, either, lol...

Even though I had problems with my Sony Xplod at 4 ohms?

How many amps is your alt making?
95

*EDIT* Also my Sony Xplod amp doesn't turn on no matter what I do and all fuses are good, before I buy anything I want to be 100% sure it's defective. All the fuses are good and all the wires were firmly connected, do you think it just died? I was playing music and all of a sudden the bass was just gone. I played every time I got in my car for a few months and then this just happened randomly. It just stopped playing and now the power light won't come on. It's been several days and still doesn't so it can't be thermal protection.

amps have gain knobs set. Use correctly and that amp can be dropped to 600watts or 100watts just use the gain and when u upgrade later u got 1.5k to wrk with.

So to sum it up that APSM-1500 (class D) would be better than a HFI1000.1d and way better than my old Sony Xplod (Class A/B) 300w @4ohm without putting much more strain on the car electrical. Would I be able to hear a difference compared to the Sony? And it wouldn't destroy my alt or anything? I already ordered the HFI1000.1d but the seller had a 60 day money back so I'll just return it and get the APSM-1500 instead if all these answers come out good.

And did anybody see what I asked about my Sony one above?

Hifonics is an upgrade (anything really is an upgrade from the sony explode line) but I am still laughing really hard at both choices. You want to sound good, you gotta spend a little.

Ok well I ordered the Audipipe one. I hope it doesn't take a crap on my electrical, but if it works out hopefully the twice the watts than I had previously will be an upgrade! Plus it's a Class D so it won't run so hot and hopefully be more efficient. Thanks all for your help I'll let you know how it all works out later this week when it arrives.

One last question though, in terms of setting gain for it can I use a DMM and following this chart: http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j23/steveo200077/RMSchart.jpg

Is that an accurate way to set it? I'm assuming since both Kenwood drivers would take a combined 400w RMS, I should be following those steps and trying to get a voltage of 40v from the amp? Am I correct?

Thanks in advance.

Setting with a test tone and dmm will get you in the ballpark. And yes, 40V AC is correct for 400w. I would highly recommend better subs, though....

I would if I could man. The money just isn't there right now. I'm a poor high school student saving up for some horrendous college tuition fees. They suit my needs just fine. Money always gets in the way. Haha.
