i have a idea about making a 8" but use a 10" 4 spoke basket so i could use a big spider. do you think it should still be conciderd a 8? will have a standard 8" cone but over 2" of throw. 8in cone 8in spider, hmmm.

just thinking of making a new sub for my collection...

just use the 10 inch basket, where the cone would normally glue down make a aluminum ring to adapt it to the 8 inch cone. but 8 inch cone and a 8 inch spider isnt needed.. the 8 i did used a 2.5 inch spider and was massive. i used a Atomic ap/spl motor which uses a 2.5 inch voice coil.

but if you were to do it and wanted the 3 inch coil the 8 inch spider would be needed.

if its a 10" basket its a 10" sub... just use a 8" basket and add a tall surround as well as wide to give more xmax. I want to know why? You dont need lots of Xmax to get high output. I had 4 custom build 8s (on them 4 are in the whole world) I run 500rms all day long on each peaking 1000-1100 watts to each. They sound like 10s and use .5 cubes ported each... no need to get crazy cuse if you have room to mount the 10" basket wouldn't you just use a 10?

planned on machining a plate and threading the basket for it to bolt on.

i dont see much a difference between this idea and say a hcca's,stroker pro,or dc lvl5 10 ring. the od on these is way over that of cone size.

i have a couple monster 8s with 2.5" coils and 7" motors that like 1k rms plus. i was just tring to think outside of the box a lil. would love to see a 8 with crazy excursion.
