Question for religious people.......

what i believe comes from what i have seen and experienced. I lived a good portion of my life as a non believer. i've been on both sides of the fence. life is much better on this side.
You're correct in stating that some people need to believe in god to give meaning to and/or be comfortable with their lives.

You've experienced science every single day of your life, too, and yet you choose to ignore the aspects that completely counter religious beliefs.

Would the evidence of alien life make you think different about your religion? Like not just traces of life on mars (skeletons etc..). If we had contact with alien life, would that disprove a god figure?

Just curious.
Nope, The Bible mentions UFO's and aliens, Read Ezekiel Chapter 1. It is believed that Ezekiel had and an encounter with Extraterrestrails.

You mean like the theory of evolution and the Big Bang theory? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
I wouldn't necessarily call that blind faith. Both are simple applications and extrapolations of basic scientific principles that function correctly day in and day out. On the other hand, religion has nothing supporting it other than a book and the faith of the people who read it.

Maybe you prefer Of Pandas and People?

I'd rather believe in something that is set in stone instead of science which changes all the time.

Oh really? How would you explain the fact that the fossil record indicates crocodiles haven't changed in 100M years? That would indicate to me that evolution has failed the crocodile miserably.

Lets not forget about the Crusades or Spanish Inquisition...
If you're just looking for a way of life that teaches good morals, why don't you study something like Buddhism or any of the other non theistic teachings?
I was searching for much more than that, and I found it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Science changes all the time because we are not born with an understanding of everything on this planet. According to you, the longer something is the same, the more plausible it is. As such, I assume you believe in Norse paganism? Or maybe a Sun god? Or perhaps the Greek gods I've already mentioned?

What if the crocodile had no reason to evolve, spiecies evolve to adapt to thier surroundings. Granted sorroundings have changed to the croc, but not enough to cause an evolution type change. It is a perfect water predator as it is.

Evolution doesn't fail anyone, and the real motor behind evolution is natural selection. Did you consider that the unfavourable traits of a crocodile in their current living conditions may have been removed many millions of years ago and, as such, there is not much mechanism for continued evolution in them?

Now why someone who believes the planet is less than 10,000 years old would want to bring up fossils is beyond me.

is putting words into others mouths the only way you can argue a point? Take the words he types for what they are.

He said he would rather believe something set in stone. There are many religions that have been "set in stone" much longer than Christianity and, as such, should be more plausible to him. It's a pretty easy thought process to follow.

Evolution is exactly why we need faith, because the natural way of the earth is the strong survive, without morals my special needs son would be left for dead:crap: What say you:wow:

When people develop their own moral compass, it is largely based on what they would and would not like done to them, as well as what is best for the society. This is seen in all other animals on this planet, as well as humans.
You're correct in stating that what is best for the society evolves; as such, it is only right to have a moral compass that evolves with it. Remember when racism was acceptable?
good example. if your moral compass is based on that, than that means its perfectly acceptable to kill and or opress people based on their skin color right? why?? because to do so, with that line of this thinking, benefits society at large; it helps your friends and family.

now if you look at that, even back then, not now, and your moral compass is based on a healthy and rational spiritual system u know thats wrong to do. u might even be inclined to do something about it. but when somebody says 'hey man, its fine. it helps society and protects my fam and friends", thats very off and irrational and even more so if u use the golden rule which i bolded up top.

when people based their morals on society, morals gets worse because society gets steadily worse. thats obectively true. society gets worse as time moves on. and if one where to say well that depends on what type of society u live. if we just take america for example, we live in a society that is permeated by drugs, brainless tv shows, forked up music extreme *** and many other things that are negative. and u (not u personally) think morals should grow with society when society is regressing into a state that stunts growth???
