I was thinkin of getting an re MT, but i have heard that people have been having problems with over heating, due to the fact that the backplate isn't vented. Have any of you had any overheating issues with the mt's? I would be using them for comps as well as daily driving....

how would a single 18" mt compare to a single 18"solo x ?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif ?

great, i appreciate the posts!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

another thing, do you think its better to go with a greater number of subs with the same amount of power?? lets say (i'm gonna use kicker subs, because i have experience w/them) is (3) 12" L7's equivalent to a single 18" solo x.. or if you wanna use re, are (3) 12" se's equivalent to a single 18" mt???? not considering SQ, i am looking at pure bass for this...

i know the 3 12's would have more surface area, but does that necessarily mean that they will be louder???//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I have 1 18 and beat the hell out of it all day long with an orion 2500d at .7 ohms. It gets warm sometimes but I have never had a problem.

it dosent mean it will be louder

Power for daily to an MT is application dependant. If you are tuned higher, have a subsonic set right after tuning, and push 3kW into it, your asking for issues since the sub isnt moving as much to help cool things down. Since the suspension is rather stiff, many people dont use a subsonic, or set it lower than you would normally so that the sub does move more below tuning and cools things down. Cooling is accomplished by convection to the pole and top plate (and some to the magnets but they are a few mm further away and the creamic doesnt quite conduct heat as well) as they are very close to the coil (air is a wonderful insulator and the tighter the gap, the better the heat transfer). Although there is a decent amount of steel and magnet in an MT, trying to dissipate 3kW into it for extended periods of time the motor will eventually heat up to the point where very little cooling is done between it and the coil. Saving grace is that the pole is solid and much of the air that is pressurized and rarified under the dustcap is actually forced over the pole and coil, back over the winds, and out throught the gap in the top plate. This definitely helps alot. But, when your sub is playing at box tuning and barely moving, you do not get this type of cooling... which is a problem.

So long meandering crap asside... it depends on how you use them. Id probably say 2.5kW is a good figure for most.

ok you seem to know a lot about the mt. How about this scenario, 1 15" MT in a 4 cube box tuned to 28-32hz ported. Its goin in the trunk of my 2000 accord is 3k ok for daily without a hastle?
There is a very good reason he knows alot about the MT //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
