question for kicker amp users

you sturrin at me brah?
when i push my amp hard, the protection light will blink with a loud bass note. is this a clipping indicator (sounds to me like the sub is clipping with this but hard to tell over all the rattling from my rear window) or indicating a voltage drop, or what?

it's a kx2500.1, same internally as the zx series.

it's only cut on out me twice and both times i was pushing it hard into clipping trying to find the limits and i was happy to see it cut itself out.

it doesnt cut out when this happens, the protect light just blinks on the hard peaks and it keeps playing, it sounds like minor clipping, and i get a bit of a voltage drop, but i dont think it would give a voltage warning or anything at 13.1v which is all it drops to, which is why i'm thinking it's a clipping indicator.

just trying to get that confirmed.

well that was when i had it cut out on me, which i was glad to see because i was clipping it hard.

i was asking what the protection light blinks for, but the amp doesn't cut out, sounds like i'm getting minor clipping when i see that.

Protection light is not the indication of amp clipping at all, it indicates over current condition. Then, when this LED illuminates, protection circuit starts shutdowning power supply of the amp or disconnecting output stage from pre-amps (in RF amps). Please, correct me if someone knows for sure, but my guess that Kicker amps using first method, and it's the slow one. That means, that activated for a short time protection circuit would not affect operation / sound output of an amp, as power supply has enough capacitance bank to make a voltage drop very little.

you guys aren't getting it... i'm not talking about when it cuts out and stops playing music.

i'm saying i can hear what sounds like it could be very minor clipping when i see this, but it continues playing, and the protection light will blink on a hard bass note. is this a clip indicator, or what?

i am aware that a protect light blinking is probably a sign of something that isn't good. what i'm wondering, is what is it? voltage drop, clipping, or something else.
