at my university (old dominion university http://www.odu.edu) they offer a regular engineering program but also a technology degree. anyone majoring in the technology field of engineering? the tecnhology professor explained it to me as a more hands on job. he said instead of designing the actual technology, technology majors will help to improve upon it. so i dont have to take such an extensive amount of math, stops after calculus 1. theres a lot of people doing this degree there, but i just wanted to see if anyone else has this program at their university. i'm still debating whether or not i want to do a regular engineering degree.

Come over to the motorsports lab and we can further educate you on it. We have several graduates who are working, some techs, some ME's. Most of those at the shop though are MET.

I can tell you the main difference.

Like the prof said, ET will be more of a hands on job. As we say at the shop, the MET's will be the ones running the Mill, operating the lathes and such. The ME will be the guy up in the office designing it and wondering if it works in real worl applications or just on the computer program. The MET actually gets to do it.

One thing that is very important though. An ME can do it all, he can design it, test it and put it into real world apps, the MET although is limited to testing and making it. Id he/she decides to, they cannot just apply for a different job in the design field where an ME is suited. THAT is tghe main difference and is why I chose to sway away from the technical degree and stick with the ME degree.
