Question/choice for front speakers

Getting closer to beginning my new install, and am trying to make final decision on front comps.

Researched and considered similar 6/6.5’s from Morel, Hertz, Focal, Seas, HAT, Dynaudio, etc, etc.

Without justifying all the “why’s” , I have narrowed it down between Boston Acoustics Pro60 SE (125WRMS @ 3ohm) or CDT ES-07 (100WRMS @ 4ohm) w/ DRT 25 tweets…maybe would still consider a set of Rainbow SLC 265.

Install is in the front doors of ’08 Ram 1500 quad cab. I will be driving them with either a JL a6540 or Sony Mobile ES 7547 on separate channels for mids, highs.

HU is an Eclipse CD7200 MkII capable of 3 way active. Two Skar VVX-12s subs in separate, custom fiberglass enclosures I am building to go beneath rear seats, run @ 1ohm off Sundown SAZ-1500d v2. CLD tiles and Audio Technix 60mil throughout. SQL is the goal. (I really dgaf if I ever make it out of the 130’s: looking for clean, impressive sound reproduction, and my main musical interests are classic rock and some harder stuff like Metallica, Alice in Chains. Def no techno, rap, dubstep, etc)

Which of the above 3 sets of comps would you go with for this install? If you’re feeling generous, include the reasoning behind your suggestion…

I really hate to say this but if your not trying to blow out ear drums take a look at the JL C5s. I dont like them myself but they are a very flat sounding speaker that do well at low volume. They also dont need a high dollar install. Online pricing isnt to bad. Just make sure you moount the tweeter close to the mid cause they do CO pretty high

Those should all get reasonably loud, but I wouldn't expect anywhere close to 130s with a good balance from 20-20kHz, especially with your music interests. As a CDT dealer I have to give props for the ES-7 and DRT-26 tweeters, but from experience with similar CDT drivers I wouldn't expect big SPL. You might see your mirror shake from the mids given the right music.

I think I looked at the C5's early on, but will give them another look.

Surprised to hear your remark about not expecting big SPL with these drivers...not that it is even close to my main concern.

Looking more for great sound.

Prince,

Been leaning towards the BA's all along!

They will deliver on great sound 100%. I recently downloaded an SPL meter app for my phone and discovered my system is not nearly as loud as I had guessed it was while playing loud music. I've never really cared about SPL numbers, plus I don't know if this app is accurate, but it's an eye opener. I honestly don't think I could tolerate 130+ dB of music in a car. I hate that feeling of getting out and wondering when my hearing will go back to normal.
