Question between kinetik and optima

i have a kinetik 1800 and a optima red top currently in hand.which would be the better choice to put underneath the hood and which one in the back?

any info on why too would be great, thanks
I do not think optima would warranty a red top if it is used for car audio. If you use it under the hood with the kinetik in the back I believe for them to still honor the warranty you must use an isolator. http://www.optimabatteries.com/optima_edge/warranty.php

The only thing a red top is great for is starting. It's not a deep cycle battery therefor it is only good for those quick bursts needed to crank the engine. The kinetic is a car audio cell, great for car audio and the loads drawn form your amps. Also, I agree with what audiolife was saying, the red top is not warranted for car audio use and will void it, the kinetic is for car audio and the isolator will keep your amps from drawing all their power from the red top instead of the kinetic while possibly maintaining the warranty for your red top and separating the two different batteries.

so will an isolator be neccessary to use the full potentinal if i put the kinetik in the back??

im still confused... will i just run it in parallel?

acting like one big *** baterry?

Actually depending on an isolator or a relay would depend on if they both work together or not. An isolator allows both batteries to get support from the alt but diodes isolate the batteries from each other, so technically since a diode is a one way valve no they would not "work together" only 1 would and isolators create a voltage drop. A relay is a switch that connects the batteries together while the engine is on and disconnect s them with the engine on. Key point is run the back battery down to low and when the batteries "connect" it can damage them, where you wouldn't have that issue with a isolator.. If you wired them straight parallel they would always be connected and would leach between the batteries. To seperate the red top from the "audio system" you should use an isolator. That is IF you want to be within your warranty. If you had 2 identical batteries you could run straight wire or if you had another battery under the hood that was not warranty dependant on an audio system you could use a relay or straight wire. Thing is with 2 different batteries you wouldnt want to leave the batteries hooked together for a week or longer without driving/starting the car to allow the alt to keep their charge up. If you do leave it set all you would have to do is remove a fuse or both between the batteries (should have a fuse 18" away on the pos side of each positive power wire between the batteries. Stressing though it is my understanding you must use an isolator for a red top to be within your warranty.
