Question about work..(or lack of)

So as you all may have read, Circuit City shitcanned 3500 of their top paid, most experienced associates last week. I was unfortunatly one of them. Being 21 and in college, I have quite a few expenses (Car Payment, Credit cards, Cell phone) and the 200.00 a week after taxes is not going to be enough for me.

On the day that they canned me, they gave me a letter that read the following:

The purpose of this letter is to advise you that Jeffrey Raymond Squier's employment with Circuit City Stores, Inc. ended effective March 28, 2007 as a consequence of Circuit City Stores Inc.'s buisness decision, with respect to certain positions, to separate from employment hourly associates paid above the established pay range.

Jeffrey has been employed by Circuit City from August 12, 2005 to March 28, 2007. At the time of separation from employment, Jeffrey held the position of Product Specialist- Roadshop.

At the time of separation, I was a SENIOR product specialist in the computers/cameras department. The pay cap for that position is significantly higher then for just a product specialist. I know for a fact that there are seniors in the store that did not lose their job, that were making more for me..Since the pay cap for seniors is the same across the store, same with product specialists.

Not having a job, even though it's only been 5 days is causing alot of stress..I have been constantly worrying how things are going to get paid, I have the mindset that I won't be able to find a job that paid me what circuit city paid me, and I have lost alot of sleep over this. I just want to know, is there anything I can do, Legally.

My first step, is im going to call human resources and explain the situation. If that doesn't work, what do you folks think i should do?

10.95 an hour...the did not offer me my job at a lower rate, they told me i can wait 10 weeks and re-apply, and for a reduced rate, it is more then likely whatever the base pay for sales is...

the main thing im *****ing about, is i was canned as a regular sales assoc..not a senior

your kidding right??? People make that much STARTING at lowes or home depot

Lowe's in more rural areas do not start out that high. I will be $100 on it. Not being part time. (You must have open hours to be full time in our Region, your region may be different)

If you are good salesman, you could start out at 40k as a specialist. Most make less though...in the 30s.

I have been with Lowe's for nearly 5 years and I make slightly less than you. But I started out at 7.00. We only get one raise per year on our anniversary date.

I would get a job somewhere just to get some income and look for alternatives during your spare time.

They did the same shit to me. I was fired as an installer even though I was an Assistant S&I Manager. I think they do that in order to justify it in their system in case you decide to get the law on them. They fired me cause I was up for a $3000 bonus for having the #1 Roadshop in my region. They want people to perform, but they don't want to pay them for it. At the time I was making $12.70/hr. I work for Comcast now as a tech. making $15.35/hr.

Maybe 1 or 2 positions start around there, but the median start wage is lower than that.
trust me its cashiers.. my niece works there..

who the F_WORD works part time anymore??

just look for a new job... and nobody on here can tell you what stores by you pay since they are all different. i would look for some office job/internship. if you're 21 and in college i would assume you're almost done. plan for the future buddy.

I'm sure you can file for unemployment, and receive 80% of your past wages.

Go file for it man, and atleast collect until you come across something else.

You weren't fired from your job, you were severed, and you should be able to get unemployment no problem.

if you know anyone with any seniority at the cc where you worked, i would sujjest takeing the letter to them, explaining the mistake and see if they will write you a more accurate letter.

if you have a good work ethic / attitude, any employer you apply to over the next few weeks will recognise your profesionalism and offer you a job,

its possible you will be out of work for several months and get deep into chit,

its also possible,

you will have a new job in 11 days, for more money less hours and a sexy boss that 'does' you at lunch //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

what 'mindset' will you adopt for the next 11 days?

fear or hope?

its your life, you choose.

i always view unemployment as an unexpected and much appreciated vacation //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
