question about wiring

so i got my system install in the pass by some audio store. (before i knew how to install it myself)

for installing the speakers to the amp.

what they did was just cut the old stock system wire and added some lower guage wire(bigger wire) at the end of the stock wire and then to the speakers.

my question is ,doesn't the whole entire wire from the amp to the speaker have be replace for the new and better wire to take effect? or just the end will be fine.

so pretty much i got larger wire at both end ( to the speakers and amp) but stock wire in between those.

If it is just going from the amp to the speakers, it's not really that big of a deal, as long as it's atleast 16 awg or so. Now If they were to do that for the amp power wire, I would call them jackasses.

But to answer your question, the size of the wire is only as big as the smallest guage along the line (in general), so them adding larger guage to the smaller guage really did just as much as adding the same size as the original.

It is not that big of a deal but if you paid to have an Audio store do it then they should have done it right. I would take it back and show it to them and ask them to either refund a portion of the cost or to fix it the way it should have been done the first time

its a bottleneck but it really doesn't matter on those speakers

My friend had BB install his system and they did the exact same thing for his 4 channel amp. They ran the new wires to the front and spliced them to the stock wiring. Confused the **** out of my when I tried to re-hook his system up.

Some shops look to make it work but spend the least on quality. You have to be careful nowadays
