Question about testing a sub

Is it possible to test a sub using home audio equipment? I got a sub off ebay and I want to make sure it works but I don't have anything to test it with before I go to the installer(which will be next month). //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Its a single-voice coil 4ohm 10".

Do you have anything at home that will accept a 4 Ohm load? (not all home audio receivers care too much for resistance loads below 8 Ohms //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif)

Thats a really good question, guess I should check the manuals. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blush.gif.99bc659ee2012b7d826165e26fb5eebe.gif

Edit: Well the receiver only goes down to 6 ohms and I can't find anything about the output jacks on HT sub's amp so I'm gonna assume that they do not go down to 4 ohms just to be safe. Everything on the sub looks fine so I'm just going to assume it works. If not, tis life.

You can still run it off of the HT system...

Just don't turn the volume up to high, or it will try and eat too much current, and the receiver will go into "protect".

Or You can just tie some speaker wires to the positive and negative terminals on a 9 volt battery, and connect the other end to the speaker terminals to see if it moves.
