Question about setting gain and HU volume

I know most people set their volume on the HU at 3/4volume. Last time I set my gain @ 44 on the dmm (1ohm) and 40/52 on the HU, and +10/14 on the subwoofer level.

It didn't get as loud as I expected it to until I turned the volume up to 52 and then I lowered it again.

My question is would it be ok to set the volume on the HU at 45/52 and subwoofer level 12/14?

Got this from the Gain Tutorial in the amp sec

Okay, before I post the links, there's just one problem that I have with the following guide. It says to use 75% of max volume. I don't agree with this at all because, with some head units, you can crank it up to full without distortion and with others, it may only be 60% ... To set your gains, use the MAX settings you'd NORMALLY use ... If the loudest you listen to your music at on a regular basis is 22/35 with bass @ +3 and treble @ 0 with MX on, by all means use those settings. Also remember to have the car on It should also be noted that if you want to use bass boost, set it prior to the gains and use the center frequency of the bass boost (45 Hz for most amps) as your test tone ... Please remember that if you have a subwoofer volume control, set it to full before you set the gains on the sub amp ...

Last time I blew my amp I had my subwoofer level at 14/14 and people said I can't do that. I know I can't crank the volume to 52/52 because that sends bad signals but what about the subwoofer level being at 14/14?

If it is a subwoofer level control (volume) and not a bass boost, you can certainly turn it to the maximum. Having it any lower than that attenuates the signal.
I never use bass boost. Im talking about the subwoofer level on my HU if I could have it on the maximum level which is +14/14?

And whats the highest you think I should raise my volume to? My HU goes up to 52.

Use the settings you would normally use.
