Question about Scosche Kit

I've replaced my perfectly functioning Metra kit with the not so perfect Scosche kit in my Taurus... It was made for 00-03 Taurus, and I happen to have an 04.

My A/C controls do not light up, rear defrost doesn't appear to work, my top cigarette lighter doesn't work, and my in dash air bag light comes on. There's an illumination wire that it said to splice into the cigarette lighter illumination wire... However I can find no such thing on my model. I believe this wire would fix the lights and rear defrost at least. Where else could I connect this wire? Also I read something about installing a 10k resistor on one of the cable, I'll be doing that soon to fix the air bag light.

Is there a reason you don't want to just put the Metra wiring harness back in?

My OEM brackets broke and couldn't be removed with the tools. I was forced to pry the kit out with a screwdriver to remove it. The results weren't pretty.
Why don't you get another kit? Or is it one of those cars where some random things are expensive as Heck?

The kit is around $80 and I've already got the Scosche kit which fits. I believe I can make it function correctly with a couple easy and cheap mods, I'm just not entirely sure how to approach it.

I was thinking about splicing the illumination wire to my instrument cluster if all else fails... I'm not sure how well it would work or easy it would be to do though, so I'm looking for other solutions.

And I'm mainly concerned with the air bag light in the instrument cluster that's coming on right now... Getting a resistor and putting that on is my first priority
