Question about my speaker problem, please help!

I have 2 6x9 Lightning audio speakers in my front and 2 6x9 coustic speakers in my rear. I never had any problems with these speakers with my old Sony CD player CDX-GT100. I recently purchased an Alpine CDA-9847 to upgrade my cd player and now i've been having some problems. When i turn the Bass Boost up not even loud the speakers sound like they are distorting. I think my Coustic speakers are making more of the noise than my Lightning Audio speakers. I do not know why this would happen when the Alpine is only 1 more RMS than my previous cd player but its an alpine so idk.. When i have my bass boost low, the speakers play fine without distortion. I want my bass boost up pretty high otherwise my subs arent hitting nearly as loud as they should be. I am wondering if i blew the bass portion of the speakers or if my settings are just screwed up. Where should my bass boost -7~+10 be, the bass freq (60,80,100, or 120), treble/treble freq. Maybe my settings are just wrong but I have been putting the Fader towards the front to minimize bass distortion. Any help is greatly appreciated and i'll try your suggestions. I just cant believe this sounds worse than my Sony lol. Thanks a lot guys.

well im going to sleep, i'll check this tomorrow. if you read it please give me some suggestions. i think back speaks might be blown or something. pretty lame haha.

I think you are going about your system setup the wrong way. I assume you have sub(s) on an amp? Try turning up the gain on it instead of turning up the bass boost. The bass boost will affect all your speakers, and the already limited built in HU power will clip very easily, causing your speakers to distort. Your best bet is to get some amp to power the 6x9's as well, perhaps cross them over to limit the lowest frequencies from overdriving the cones.

yea i have a rockford 501BD powering 2 MTX subs. The amp can overpower the subs so i guess the gain will be a smart thing to change. I was thinking that myself last night. Thanks for the help. I think that makes the most sense. I think the coustic are 100 rms and the lightning audio are 75 rms so what amp should i get? i dont want to spend too much money so any budget amp suggestions would be great. thanks for the response.

Here's a good budget amp, it does 75wrms x 4, so it should be good for you:

Here's something with a little more power (100wrms x 4), but it costs about 2.5 times as much.

If you want higher power, it's a lot cheaper to get two 2-channel amps than one 4-channel with the same power. For example, if you wanted 160wrms x 4, you could get two Profile AP1000 amps for $86 each. You can't get a 4-channel amp with that kind of power for less than $300.

Also, check the classified on here. Lots of amps for sale.

thanks for the help. can my speakers handle that much power? 75 rms each? im not sure if the rated power is for each speaker or both.

lol i would loev to have louder speakers/bigger amp but its enough for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
