Question about my power

Well I am driving a 99 Prizm and to be honest I dont know much about car audio. I recently put in 2 12' Kenwood subs and a 1000W amp to them. I feel like they should be alot louder than what they are outputting right now. When I turn it loud it seems like the subs do not get enough power, since the my car speakers will be very loud compared to the bass. Also, my lights dim quite a bit. I am wondering if this a power problem? Would a cap help increase the sub power or do I need another amp? I know a cap would help my lights though. Can you please give me some of your input to make my subs louder?

Well what amp are u running?

What guage wire?

Where is your ground?

How olld is your battery?

What guage wire is connecting your alt to yoour batterry as welll as the wire from battery to chassis?
