Question About My Fuses.

Hello guys, I have a question that I am a bit confused on.

I recently got a new amplifer for my amp. I have an 8 Guage Wire that runs from the battery to my amp. My amp has two 40A fuses on it. Now the fuse that I have near my battery is a 40A fuse. I have had my fuse running like this for about 2 weeks now. I just want to make sure that this will be OK as time keeps going by.

Is that OK to have? Or Is the fuse to small at the battery?

What problems could arrise with this, or What problems could arrise with a bigger fuse?

Thanks

Hey bro,

Welcome to the forum. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

First upgrade your power wire to atleast 4 gauge and see what happens...

How many watts are you pushing ????

Thanks man.

I have a Rockford Power Series Amp T4004, pushing a sub and 4 speakers, The spec sheet says its max power is 679 watts.

Im trying to avoid upgrading my wire, I have had that 8awg wire in there for about a year.. all i did was upgrade my amp..

My first amp i had two 25A fuses with a 40A fuse at the battery, all i did was change amps, and I really dont wanna upgrade my wiring

If you aren't blowing the fuse, then it isn't too small. Also since you aren't blowing the use you aren't pulling enough current to need to upgrade the wire. In short, you're fine with it just like it is.
yes, if you that is enough to push your sub and speaks then your good. But on the other hand if you would like more power upgrade to 4awg its not that expensive and i beilve would be way more effeciant.

alright so basically the only bad thing that can happen is that, the fuse will blow?

Yea im happy with what I have, right now, that wire is actaully giving my amp enough power, my sub bumps reallyhard, and my speakers are loud as hell, i only upgraded the amp to get mroe power to speakers and sub, b/c i have everytihng running off 1 amp, and the other amp i had wasnt cutting it

so if i decided to upgrade my wire to a 4awg wire, would my amp get more power, thus making my speakers, and sub sound louder and alot better?

If so would i need an 80A fuse at the battery?

just for a refresher, i own a Rockford Fosgate Power T4004 Amplifier, with 2 40A fuses on the amp

depends on if the amp is choking on the smaller wire or not... i have a feeling the amp has bigger fuses than it needs if you were running 8ga w/ a 40 amp fuse and it held up fine... plus its only 400 watts rms.. so you dont really need to upgrade, i highly doubt you're going to notice any difference in sound... if you have headlight dimming or anything it would help out with that...

and then yea, use a 80amp if you do it

actually thats jsut the RATED power of 400w rms, the spec sheet that comes in the box says the ACTUAL power is 649 watts rms

then i reckon its underrated... never used one so i couldn't tell ya... in that case you could get away with 8ga, but 4ga wouldn't be a bad idea

649WRMS into a purely resistive load with a 0dB sine wave. First your speakers are not a purely resistive load. Second music is nowhere near a 0dB signal, nor continuous in its level. There is no way that your amp is putting out 649WRMS while playing music.

If the amp is not getting enough voltage, it will try to draw more current and blow the use. If you aren't blowing the fuse, your voltage is not sagging (the reason you go to a bigger wire in the first place is to prevent voltage drops) and you don't need to upgrade.
