Question about magnets

Why is it subs like the xcon or Fi.Q can get hella loud with just that single magnet?

I'm assuming they only have one magnet seeing as I can only see one, but I'm just interested in how they can get as loud as certain double and triple magnet subs.

i'll guess they have one spider, where-as more high powered subs will have two, three, four, or more, spiders, and other more rigid soft parts.. up to a certain wattage point some low(er) end subs will hang with the badboys. I know back in the day up to about 1kw the 35 series DD would hang with a 95 series, but after that it was Tyson style TKO with the 95.

its not all motor that does the power...softparts too
I understand that, but the motor isn't just some arbitrary part that has no consequence on the sub's performance.

ah that makes sense.

too much to explain, its all about flux. the huge single slug charges the top plate fully. also i believe the btl has 4 or 5 stiff polycotton spiders.

3 slugs is only ever used for clearance cause with 2 slugs the top plate is fully charged. the 3rd slug is cheaper than a really thick top plate //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Stacking magnets does not increase the flux in the gap a whole lot... The main reason extra stacks are used on most subs is to gain clearance between the top and back plates... that and as one manufacture put it, it looks beefier to most people...

A design like FI uses with single magnet of a larger diameter is actually much more effective at putting flux in the gap...

Indeed... typically a high stack is for clearances. You still gain a little bit of flux stacking them but not a whole lot past ~50mm or so typically. Most of the effect is from surface area -- so you could use one wide slug and be fine.
