Could more than two people get passed thinking I'm bragging and realize I'm asking a valid frequency question?

If you compete you know that loud to the ear and loud to the meter are different things.

For daily, tune low..like low 30's ( I like 32hz)

For comps and the meter, tune to almost double that which won't sound good or 'feel' loud like a good low 30's setup that shakes the car.

I haven't messed with CA since I was in high school. I've had multiple systems in multiple vehicles. They were always of the "mutt" variety and I just worked with what I had.
My loudest stereo was in my 240sx hatchback running 2 crappy Pioneer 12's in a prefab ported enclosure. I never got any serious meter time but if my memory serves me correctly I was doing around 145db's (no clue which mic) listening to Outkast's Rosa Parks. This compared to my current setup felt more bassy and forced you to breath out of your mouth but the bass was kind of a high pitch compared to my current 35 hz tuned setup.

Here's my question:

My old stereo was doing around 145 db's and "hit" really hard but wasn't too hard on my ears. My new stereo plays much lower bass and doesn't necessarily close my nose (only example I can think of) but makes my ears feel like they are going to bleed. I feel like I have an ear infection and I've turned it up maybe 10 times for a max of 10 seconds each. Is the lower bass tones the "painfully loud" difference or could this mean I'm louder?

I know this is pretty general but I'm assuming I'm nowhere near 145 db's with my current setup but I can hardly bring myself to turning it up because it's so loud. I'm still running off my factory HU using a LOC. My amp is a 1606D running off an inline 80A fuse that I haven't popped yet because I have my gains set so low. I'm considering stopping any more upgrades because it's almost too much bass.

Any ideas? Could I be louder or will dropping my peak frequency make a difference in loudness perception.

I have no idea how to put this in cliff notes and be able to make my rant understandable.
I have probably played Rosa Parks like 100 times more than you and I don't think it's a good enough bass line to give you a 145. Especially with your gear. That song is not even that bass heavy. Was it fvcked and screwed or something? Where was the Mic?

I can only think of one song that might get you a TL worthy bassline that they made and that's maybe N2U (which wasnt out unless HS was 2 years ago for you) and that's a stretch. Their music is not for the TLs.

Or any meter for that matter.

I would love to help, but unlike some members here, I like to keep my mouth closed if I dont know what im talking about, and also refrain from cluttering up legit threads with useless garbage. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Somebody will guide you in the right direction.

You need to provide a more specific question. Because the only legit answer I can give you now is, yes, frequency certainly plays a role in perceived loudness. Anyhting beyond that is simply guessing at what you are asking.

maybe youve got sensitive ears.. when mines all the way up my ears just tingle a little, but ive had my gfs ears bleed before and my brothers.. but it doesnt affect me any.. mines tuned to 35hz

When you first get a high powered system running, yes you usually experience some ear fatigue. They ring, and feel sore down deep in your ear. Much like you feel for a couple days after going to a very loud concert.

Depending on your experience, system and situation, the feeling usually goes away after a few days to a week once your body gets use to it. Do not be fooled into thinking you are no longer damaging your hearing though, this continues to occur. This why I just roll my eyes when people talk about their 150db daily system they say they listen to at full blast regularly. A true 150 system would wreck your hearing pretty fast if you listen to it unprotected on a regular basis.
