Question about LOCs

I would at least get an adjustable one, otherwise some of these units output upwards of 8v

Not from a stock headunit with only about 5 watts output. You'd need a 1000 watt input to get 8 v output, and some amps can handle that. My headunit will put out 8 volts on the balanced connectors. No big deal.

Like I said. The fixed ones are fine for most people. They are designed for converting stock head units to RCA. If your trying to turn 1000 watts into line level or have unusual amp input requirements, then you need one of the higher end ones with adjustable outputs.

some LOCs have a line driver built into them

some turn on via a speaker signal (no remote wire) if you dont want to hook it up to your h/u (your rear speakers instead)

I had good results with the Scosche LOC...Im going to try the more advanced Audiocontrol LC6
