I'm kind of stuck on where I should go as far as college is concerned. I've loved to work with computers since I was in about 8th grade, and I've takin some elctronic classes and I've done a lot of computer classes ( I have around 28 hours or so in computer classes alone and I'm a sophimore). However, after trying the computer networking side of things I realized I wasn't as interested in that field as I thought. I'm wondering what some of you guys do that are computer related so I can get some ideas. Just a brief background, I love hardware and new technology a lot more than software or any of that stuff. I have done some work with websites but only what I've learned in school, which was only HTML and I have done some VB stuff.

I am PC repair certified and I could get my A+ but I just don't feel like taking the test, but I've taken a lot of practice tests and have done very well on them. Worked with all the Suites at some point in time, and I've done some e-commerce stuff. I really just want to do something with computers b/c I enjoy it and I want to enjoy what I do rather than make a as*load of money and hate it. Give me some ideas guys!

thx.

Go into Business Information Systems.... try to become the head honcha of a tech project or IT department... sure managers are overworked and are 50% babysitter but it will allow you to concentrate on the goal, pick cool hardware, spend time daydreaming about cool it solutions for your company and have fun with computers without doing too much nitty gritty...

There are also varied computer oriented degrees that don't enslave you to a server room fixing IP problems... for instance I found myself in the same boat as you. I went to a full business admin degree but once I get my bachelors I am going to take a post-bachelorette in GIS, aka Geological Information Systems. This has many various avenues but in short it's either satellite imaging/remote sensing or city planning. I'm going into the remote imaging side... it's seems fun, fairly cutting edge and offers cool jobs like military contractor (remote sensing was used to find burried tanks/planes in the first gulf war) or mineral prospecting...

yeah i used to want to work in some sort of technology field, but i didn't want to lose my job and not be able to find work when I'm 45 and all those jobs are in India/China //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

that's.... actually.... exactly what I was going to say.....

I don't believe I've heard to much about GIS? I'll have to google it later and get the scoop on it. I dunno, I'm going through my college book right now to see what all they offer, nothing really "jumps" out at me. =/..........

I would like to second computer engineer. You deal a lot with the very basic hardware side of things (microprocessors, ram, etc) but you can also do embeded systems programming if it strikes your fancy.
