Question about Battery

I got my sound system installed at an audio shop. I got 2 type Rs, the alipne 9847 head unit, Type r componet speakers in the front doors, Type 6 coax in the back doors, a rockford 1000 watt amp for the subs and an eclipse amp for the speakers, not sure about the wattage but I would say 200-400 watts. I also got a Farad Capacitor installed. Every time I drive at night with my lights on, everytime the Bass hits hard the indash lights dim. I have power windows and even when they are all the way up and push up on the button they dim. So anything you do that usues the battery it dims. Do I need something else, like a new battery?

You should consider an alternator upgrade before you consider a battery upgrade. When the car is on, the power is drawn from the alternator. When the alternator does not create enough current for the electric items in the car, the lights dim because you are having a voltage drop. When there is not enough current to suit the electronics in the vehicle the voltage drops and you do not get as much light from your lights, nor do you get as much power from your amplifiers.

about the power windows, that happens with all cars. I have a 180amp alternator and a yellow top battery and my lights still dim when I do that.

Also try removing your capacitor, because in many cases I have heard that capacitors strain one's vehicle when installed when it is not needed or of low quality or whatever.

Thats strange that your lights dim with only 400 watts. I have over a thousand and experience no dimming...

I think the big three upgrade should be your number 1 priority as of right now

your battery goes dead, you eventually kill your alternator, and possible damage to the amp because of too low voltage. make sure you have large enough wire and try doing the big 3. (too lazy to post a link so go to http://www.sounddomain.com and in the electrical forum is a big 3 sticky)

I know a guy who said this happened to, I was talking to him about it before I got my system, and he said he just got a better battery and replaced it and it worked fine after that. I also called my dealership before I got my system to check and they said that the alt. should be fine but put in a capacitor and if that doesnt help replace the battery. If I do replace the Battery with a better one, will that help at all?

don't get a capacitor. like stated above when your car is running the alt is running the show. the best way to help it is to make sure your wire is big enough, and do the big 3 like mentioned earlier. then look into a new alt and then a battery or dual battery.

...sell the capacitor, do the big 3, buy an alternator, buy a battery. in that order. stop when the problem is fixed

start simple. Get the most out of your existing setup. Spend 15 bucks on wiring and do the big 3. If that doesnt solve it, move on to more drastic upgrades.

Yeah. I had major dimmage with my new amp, did the Big 3 and it solved the problem.

He has an RF 1000w amp, plus the 300-400w amp for the in cabin speakers.

i noticed the idiot list fad vanished and i looked like an ******* with one and my system and car have changed, so i figured i was about do for a change. i'm still wondering how there is such a problem with 400 watts?
