i was just wondering who gets to decide when your car is totaled out? i beleive i heard if it goes over 80% of the blue book value your insurance company will total out the car. but can i request it to be totaled. or if my frame is bent can i have them total it or will they total it for me. i woulndt want a car with a bent frame. but who gets to decide and can i decide at anytime?

insurance co decides and yes its based on a calculation that takes bbv into account. WQifes 2000 intrepid was in a SMALl fender bender airbags deployed , dash needed replacing cuz pass. side bag comes from behind dashboard. thAT ALONE IN PARTS WAS QUOTED AT 3G'S WITHOUT LABOR. then the front bumper and sensors had to be replaced. when adjuster came to look at it i told him hood wouldnt open (rubbing on fender) he asked me to open it up i said no cuz if it didnt lock again it would pose a hazard. he agreed i then told him that the oil light was on and it was overheating. he totaled it on the spot saying the block was probably cracked. About 4 days later insurance co gave me a check for bbv of car and let me retain salvage. since then i have spend a whole $200 on the airbags and dashboard assembly. next in line is replacing front bumper another $250....

You can't request them to total it out, the insurance company will do what ever is cost effective to them..
